My husband just messaged me (from the other room- we ARE nerds here) all excited to tell me that the Rock Band Network finally launched. It's the feature that lets independent artists create their own tracks for the game and sell them via the store. He was excited for that part, but he was more excited that Kristin already has 2 songs set for launch!

Mississippi Kite and Fortune!

Since I haven't seen this mentioned, I thought other nerds might be as excited as we are (I haven't played games in ages. This sounds like just the reason to start again).

(First seen on Kotaku)

Ever since I started listening to TM & Belly I've been very interested in their record sleeves. Aside from eyesore I never found a site that collected 4AD record sleeve scans so I hunted them down from different sources and started my own site.

Last month I finally found the inside artwork for the "Feed The Tree" EP so I posted all the insides: Slow Dust, FTT, & Gepetto. Plus all the back covers are up.

I'm also trying to get the word out about Cash Music. It just seems crazy to me that all these great songs are out there for free and they're not getting anywhere near the attention they deserve.

If you get a chance check out RJ Battles, maybe you'll see some pictures you haven't seen before. I've tried to make the kind of site that I'd like to spend time looking at and reading. Thanks, RJ

Hi Billy and Kristin

Hope you don't mind you mentioning this here, but I've heard this morning that the BBC 6music digital radio station is to be cut :(

The decision has be be upheld by the BBC trust, so any forum readers who wish to show support for a station which plays Kristin's music, and that of artists like her, can email the BBC trust: trust.enquiries@bbc.co.uk

I still wish that kristin would have commercial success... i still don't understand why this is not happening... or maybe i do....kristins solo albums are good...throwing muses latest album is good...50 foot wave albums/eps are good.

Good in the sense that i could play it for friends and they will say: "sounds good, but not astonishing"...And i agree.... Kristin only becomes astonishing when you merge these three together. They balance each other in a very sophisticated way I think.

Therefore i wish that a future throwing muses album would merge all three of these ingredients. Therefore i wish that a future throwing muses album would include opiates and slippershell…..And with Milan sounding like another “Your ghost”, another Throwing muses album could become a mini massive commercial success.

Forgive me for the off-topic post, guys, but I figured there was some relevance here via the Vic connection. Plus, I know there are fans of the man here...

I'm in utter shock and horribly sad after arriving home tonight to read this on Facebook:

Sparklehorse From the Linkous Family: "It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you."

Some of you may recall that for years, I've expressed a dream that Kristin would one day work with Mark. So many other artists with a similar vibe and approach to music had worked with Mark, of whom I was a HUGE fan, I thought it would be natural fit.

Perhaps the most disturbing thing is that Spaklehorse's final home page was a link to K's CASH page with her memories of and fundraising efforts for the family of Vic, who sang on Sparklehorse's last album, "Dark Night of the Soul" (a collaboration with Danger Mouse and David Lynch, with numerous guest vocalists), as well as the 2001 release (ironically titled, in retrospect), "It's a Wonderful Life." Just two weeks ago, I watched Suzanne Vega perform her contribution to "Dark Night" live. It was magical.

I feel like crying right now. Another gifted musician with a tragic story behind him—he actually died in 1996 of a drug overdose and was brought back to life but left temporarily crippled—who apparently didn't feel equipped to handle life on this planet, lost. If you're so inclined, there's more info here:

http://tinyurl.com/yduleb9

And to hear the album which Vic appeared on, "Dark Night of the Soul"—an album that rather criminally will never be released due to contract disputes—you can legally listen to it on NPR's web site (or email me for a download link):

http://tinyurl.com/qa5n88

hi, i believe that 50 foot wave included 'your ghost' with their free download of their debut on download.com back in 200(4?). I don't have the file anymore and I was wondering if anyone knew where I can purchase the mp3 or if it is still available for download somewhere. I love that song and i love their sound! Thanks!

Hi Billy and everyone.
I've just been reading Bernice Yeung of @shareabledesign's piece about Cash, and was just wondering how many of us Strangels are there, and where are we all from? (bernice mentions "several hundred"). Perhaps you could have something like the site vistors clustr map on the cash page or somewhere.

Strangels (and non-strangel users). Do any of you run Folding@home clients on your PC's, PS3's, XBoxes or whatever? If so, do you fancy clubbing together as a Strange Angel team?
Strangels for Kristin AND medical research.

Holy hell! I just heard 4 new Muses songs! Damn. Rizzo sent them to me instead of to Dave (I'm not supposed to hear 'em yet, since they're only K on guitar) but hey all's fair in love of Muses, right?

I got 'em around midnight last night and sat listening over and over...I am blown away. Even the titles were cool: Sunray Venus, Terra Nova, Milan, Swollen. I wish I could share 'em with you...really, I do.

...if a song is a TM, 50' or KH solo song?

I'm a longtime fan, but new Strange Angel subscriber. I have to say, subscribing has got me listening to all the great downloads that are available but more importantly, has gotten me more focused on the studio albums (which remain, to me, even in these strange musical times, to be the ultimate "artistic statement" that a musician/band makes).

So, my question for Kristin is - how do you know whether a song is going to be a TM, 50' or KH song? Do you just write songs, and worry later about which band will play them? Or do you set out to write a 50' song, or a TM song, etc. How often does it happen that a song gets written for one and winds up getting played by another (something tells me that Slippershell might fall into this category)? Do you ever write a song and think that it would be PERFECT for some other band (for example do you ever write a song and say "there, a Pearl Jam song!")?

One reason this comes to mind is the fact that the solo work is so varied. However, the album Sky Motel seems to veer quite close to TM material (as does LTSLAS at times)...so how was it determined that those songs would be KH songs?

Sorry if this stuff has been asked before, but the writing process of a songwriting genius is of obvious interest to me. And besides, John Lennon doesn't give straight answers these days!

i've read the news about Warner Music to stop licensing songs to free online streaming sites, and i was wondering... is it going to affect americans and europeans with no distinction like it happened with YouTube, when all the Muses official videos were gone? or since their records are licensed to 4AD in Europe we'll be able to keep listening to their catalogue in Spotify?

i have all the originals after all, but to be able to listen to streaming music like that is really practical, since a lot of my cd's are at my mother's and miles away, hehe. plus it's good to discover new artists as well, and if you're someone who loves music and loves to have records and what they mean, you're going to support the artist anyway. it's like all they can think of is censorship to save their old business, like the customers will be willing to buy a record better if they can't know what the music is like. i'm an old school guy too, i tend to save the surprise factor with artists that i like and never listen to a full record before buying it, i still love that sensation, but you can't deny that everything has evolved and the way we understand and distribute music too, so... i don't understand how they can see it as "we can't have our costumers listen to the whole product for free cause then they won't buy it". i see it more as a tool rather than a threat. i think that nevermind having complete access to it or not, the person who won't buy a record, just won't buy it.

Kristin's going to perform a very special show at the Rubin Museum of Art in NYC on June 4th. Letting you know nice and early because seating is going to be very limited - like only 130 tickets limited.

Here's info we've received from the Museum - sounds like it will be a beautiful show:

NAKED SOUL
RUBIN MUSEUM OF ART
150 W 17th St, NYC 10011
212.620.5000 ext 344 http://www.rmanyc.org
Naked Soul is an all acoustic and unplugged (Naked) music series held at the Rubin Museum of Art (www.rmanyc.org). The Rubin is the only museum in North America whose entire collection is dedicated to artwork of the Himalayas (Soul). The series is held in the Rubin's intimate 137 seat cherry wood lined theater. When the artists arrive they are given a tour of the museum. Artists are encouraged to make connections between the art and their songs - slides of any piece of art that the artists choose are projected behind the artist during the performance. After the show, the audience is given a free tour of the museum. Tickets are available by clicking here or by calling the museum M-F 11am-5pm at 212-620-5000 ext 344.

Hey Guys,

I'm just curious about why Power + Light has only been released as vinyl. Does Kristin feel breaking the album into tracks (as you'd have to on cd or itunes) disrupts the way the album is supposed to be enjoyed (as one continuous track with several movements).

It's such an amazing piece of work and I fear it's gotten lost in the shuffle. Any plans to release it on itunes in the future?

Sorry if this has been discussed already . . .

Thanks always,

James

Hi B & K,

First, I received the 5cd 10-4-All yesterday and it is absolutely amazing - without doubt the coolest thing I own. Whoever came up with this idea is a genius! Thank you.

(If anyone reading doesn't already own 10-4-All, buy it if you can - possibly the best $70 you'll ever spend.)

Now the questions - there are many..... sorry!

Will there be any more 10-4 All CDs made available at the Throwing Music store, or are the 5 CDs all of the recordings? If there are more, is there a complete list of songs that have been (or will be) recorded?

Are you ever likely to make 10-4 You available again? If so is there a waiting list we can go on?

If you do make it available again, is there any chance of adding some 50FootWave songs to the list?

Last one I promise... would it be possible to make the PDF of the 200 songs available again? I just wanna see which songs I could have chosen from if I hadn't missed it but the link seems to be broken....

I'll stop asking questions now...

GN.
