Vic and Kristin interviewing each other, I guess it is from 1998. Quite a nice read.

A moving memorial on NPR with a really illuminating interview with Michael Stipe, Jem Cohen and Guy Piccioto during the last half hour. I really appreciate how even amidst their deep grief they refused to allow their friend to be simplified but insisted on the human complexity of the whole situation.

For all Vic fans who feel like remembering Vic and listening to his music together: I came across this great blog where the blogger plans to write about Vic's music everyday for a year. He also posts lots of song clips, including some very memorable live performances. It's a really wonderful project and worth checking out.

Dear Kristin, thank you so much for your wonderful letter about Vic and the invitation to danate. Only today I found out about Vic's death and some of the circumstances... I am so increadibly sad. Your words helped me to take and understand the gravity of the situation. The invitation to danate is a great idea to support Tina and the family and I deeply hope that many people will follow.
Diving into your website I have also learned about the difficult times you had.
I am sending my best regards and my love to you, Billy and your boys. You are in my heart!

With thanks and appreciation to those who've been sharing Vic-related material, I wanted to offer a little teaser of what I mentioned earlier in the week--Kristin and Vic performing "Panic Pure" on June 3, 2000, at Foley's Cellar in San Francisco:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ertes6PercI

It's fairly low resolution, since it's on YouTube, and I managed to botch it further with YouTube's new settings and don't have time to re-do it today (sorry). But I hope you won't mind.

As soon as possible, I intend to get the entire show authored for DVD and shared among those who are interested in a copy, along with offering the raw files once I find an appropriate way of hosting them. The footage was shot from the second row to mini DV with a tripod, and while I didn't use an external microphone, the sound is still pretty decent since it was a quiet acoustic show.

It's sad that we're using this occasion to share, and I wish I'd done my part sooner, as I'd intended to for years. But I hope that collectively, we can bring some comfort to those paining from Vic's death--and hopefully encourage donations to help out.

I only found out about this last night - been away for Xmas - I am truly gutted. Been a fan since I heard the "Sweet Relief" compilation - bought all his albums, seen him live several times, and had the good fortune to meet him at the Union Chapel in London a few years ago - where we discussed the possibility of a future UK double header with Kristin - which tragically never happened. It saddens me of his passing, and it angers me that someone of his immense talent is taken away from us. It's also an irony (that Vic would probably have pointed out long before I did) that a man who passionately advocated the idea of atheism ended up dying on Christmas Day. Some of his lyrics could be the funniest imaginable - "Vesuvius" from "Ghetto Bells" is a case in point. Let's hope that in death, Vic is finally recognised by a mass audience as one of the most innovative lyricists ever produced - it's a tragedy that he did not get worldwide acclaim alongside the likes of Cohen et al whilst he was still alive. RIP Vic - this hurts.

A late posting, and actually not much use if you live in the US, especially on the West Coast, but I'll be doing a tribute to Vic on BLU FM 89.1 tonight, 8 - 10pm Oz Eastern Summer Time.
I'm just planning to play my personal faves from "Little" to "Skitter on Take-off", with anything else relevant to the case thrown in. Even a little Hank Williams (huh?)
See you on the net if you can make it.
cheers-

Since people are sharing recordings here... I have been a huge fan of Vic's music for over 10 years now and have collected and recorded loads of his concerts over time. I also have a few of the shows he did with Kristin in 2000:

Lupo's Hotel, Providence, RI, 03-09-2000
Sommerville Theater, Sommerville, MA, 03-10-2000
Tin Angel, Philadelphia, PA, 03-13-2000
Variety Playhouse, Atlante, GA, 03-17-2000
Grey Eagle Tavern, Asheville, NC, 03-19-2000 (partial video recording)
Club IOTA, Arlington, VA, 05-13-2000
Park West, Chicago, IL, 05-18-2000
The Mint, Los Angeles, CA, 06-07-2000

They aren't available online at least at the moment as far as I am aware and of varying qualty (partly even on tapes), but if anyone is interested, drop me a line: ekphantos at yahoo dot com

I am still too devastated about Vic's passing to listen to his music at the moment, but if someone finds comfort in them, I can see what I can do to get them out.

good morning everyone... Vic didn't leave my mind yesterday, nor today as you can see.

i think you will love this (hope it's not what you wanted to share, ska4me). it's a soundboard recording of a Vic & Kristin show at the Old Music Hall, UW-Madison, WI on May the 20th 2000. they take turns on stage and they sing "Panic Pure" and "Your Ghost" together as an encore. i got pretty emotional yesterday listening to it, hearing them joking with each other and being impressed by their respetive performances. Vic played a superb and loose set of piano songs that night. incredible performances of "Hungry" and "Home" by Kristin. they're 320 kbps mp3. save it with utmost care.

Part 1
Part 2

Setlist: 01 Hysterical Bending / 02 Forthright / 03 Caffeine / 04 Kick My Ass / 05 Home (aborted) / 06 Heaven + Myrtle / 07 Hope / 08 Steve Willoughby / 09 Home / 10 Duty Free / 11 Hungry / 12 I'm Through / 13 Rabbits Dying / 14 Aunt Avis / 15 Delicate Cutters / 16 Florida / 17 Pearl / 18 Isadora Duncan / 19 Panic Pure + Your Ghost

I just dug up something pretty special K/Vic related that I'd like to share. But, though I own most of Vic's albums, I'm terrible with EVERYONE's song titles (K's included, as many of you know--lyrics, too).

If you're someone familiar with Vic and K's material and can help me out with song titles, please drop me a line at scottghamilton att gmail dott com. Thanks...

Sorry to hear about this tragedy.

I loved Vic! I used to cover one of his songs. "When I Ran Off And Left Her". A few other people I know were fans of Vic too. They will be sad. I did not have many of his records but I will get them in time.

He was quite the character it seems.

Sorry to hear to news; like some others here, Vic was a recent find for me thanks to K. When you have just 'discovered' something you begin to love and then have taken away is just gut-wrenching. Our thoughts are with Vic's family and friends, and to K&B and family.

I am so sorry to hear this news. My heart goes out to everyone that knew Vic or was touched by his music.

I saw him for the first time in June, supporting Jonathan Richman. I admire how he could find humor in such dark subjects.

It still annoys me that manufactured artists can have success while people like Vic and Kristin are largely ignored. Still, the few that do appreciate such art, really do love what you do.

RIP Vic :(
