  1. Can't believe that I'm the first to comment on this. What an incredible night. Kristin was great, playing a shorter set than usual, but this was completely made up for with the reading from Rat Girl/Paradoxical Undressing after the interval. I saw the Paradoxical show a couple of years ago, but Giant Sand gave it a very different mood - more relaxed, surreal and really funny at times. The highlight of the night for me were the three songs they played at the end of this section. The full band version of Sno Cat gave me goose bumps and it was great to hear Husk and Your Ghost (a song I'm not completely in love with, which was given a brilliant new dusty/country spin).
It goes without saying that Giant Sand and A Band of Gypsies were magnificent. I have to thank Kristin, for without her I never would have discovered Howe and his music a number of years ago.I really love how random he is on stage.
Also, please tell me that somebody recorded Wayfaring Stranger, what a wonderful collaboration between all the artists on the bill.
Great night all round and, despite the relatively small audience, one of the best gigs I've been to for a long time.

  2. Great gig, particularly loved the version of Your Ghost. Thanks K.

  3. Gig of the year, no question.

  4. Great to see Kristin reading Paradoxical Undressing, really went to see her as not that much of a Giant Sand fan but I did like their backing music. Shame we had to leave early to get the train home and missed Wayfaring Stranger. That Billy o is a nice chap too, met him briefly in the interval.

  5. Incredibly nutritious gig, so much wonderful music.

  6. It was a fantastic night, & I was front row centre for the whole thing, amazing!!

Here is my terrible footage of 'Wayfaring Stranger', but you do get to see the whole ensemble ;-)

  7. I enjoyed the show very much, great seat in middle of row D, but had to leave before the end to catch the last train home, so I was another who missed Poor Wayfaring Stranger - I thought they might do that one at the end since both Kristin and Giant Sand have recorded versions, but I couldn't hang on.

Kristin's solo set was short (to be expected) and ran: Gazebo tree/ Hysterical bending/ City of the dead/ Flooding/ Quick/ Your dirty answer/ Mississippi kite/ Speed and sleep/ Teeth.

Then after a Giant Sand set and an interval, Kristin came back out with Giant Sand and read from Paradoxical Undressing which I think came across really well. Then she played Sno cat, Husk and Your ghost with Giant Sand. All sounded great with the full band, and made it worth going along. I'd not heard Husk done live before so that was a nice surprise.

I'd have loved to have gone to last night's events too, but I couldn't have made both. I guess this will have to be my fix until the next tour.

  8. It was such an amazing night, wasn't it? The highlight of my summer. We didn't want to go home! Kristin was absolutely incredible.

The rendition of "Your Ghost" with Giant Sand was almost unbearably beautiful. Does anyone has any footage of that? (Even if it's really wobbly!). Thanks for posting "Wayfaring Stranger", dollface.

Loved the "Rat Girl/Paradoxical Undressing" readings. The Round Midnight secret show was wonderful too. It was really lovely to see how much genuine love, warmth and support there is for Kristin.

Thank you so much, Kristin and Billy, for coming over. Haste ye back!
