Think this deserves a thread of it's own :o)
For starters,

Particularly liked the phrase 'massive publicity push'!

It sounds amazing! Very exciting :-) x
Looking forward to this.
Will one of the "old fashioned" physical CDs be released as well? I'm in the UK (and not a Strange Angel) - would I have to buy an import from, say, the States?
Sorry if this has been covered before.
Hi,
I am the publisher of the Crooked book and we will be ensuring that it is made available to book and record shops worldwide and also all the online retailers.
It is coming together beautifully, all thanks to Kristin, Billy and Jesse.
Of course, the best way to ensure your local store has it for release date is to tell them that you want it.
I will make sure information on stockists and suppliers is posted up here on this thread the moment I have it.
Delighted to hear that you are excited. So are we!
Hi,
Thanks for dropping by, and for the good news!
Question for Billy: will "Crooked, The Book" also be part of "Crooked, The Box"?
Oh, and you can read a bit more about the book at my own blog:
http://meandmybigmouth.typepad.com/scottpack/2010/03/crooked.html
and also at The Bookseller website:
http://www.thebookseller.com/news/114511-throwing-muse-releases-album-through-tfp.html
Enjoy.
This is just incredibly stunning. And I do hope this isn't a stupid question, but will The Book be available at record stores - if those still exist - AND bookstores? Because this seems incredibly cool and possibly the first time it has ever been appropriate for both locations to sell the same object to different audiences.
Hey, click through to wildsheep's blog for a pretty picture!
I second the question from jediroller...What about the BOX?
Hey guys...thanks for the enthusiasm...as usual you're way too kind.
CDs will be available through our online store. Even those of you in the UK and Europe will be able to order and have it shipped for less (US$12 + postage) than CD list price in your part of the world.
As for the book's inclusion in the The Box. The best answer is 'no'. It's possible that we'll be able to bundle a signed book in with The Box but The Box has not been constructed to include a book. Sorry if that's disappointing. We had no knowledge of the book when we were doing the vital planning for The Box.
Oh, and yes firepile, the book will be available in record stores - HMV (the one remaining British chain) in particular has expressed a desire to support the book. The idea of the book on every high street in Waterstone's makes me even happier though. The idea of that "appropriateness" is what drove this project in the first place. You're so smaht.
x
Not disappointed at all, I was just curious. Kristin & Co never disappoint.
It's amazing how you guys keep coming up with fresh ideas. You're supposed to be the old guard, haven't you been told that? Shifting the whole goddamn paradigm indeed. You make me proud to be a SA. Again.
My head is swimming. So many versions of "Crooked" to drool over....mmmm....objects to fetishize...
Can I piggyback off Pegasus' question? Will the Strange Angels be receiving a vanilla CD in the mail? or is the book going to be the mainstream object for this release and hence no vanilla CDs ?
@muser & pegasus Oh, sorry...I thought I'd answered that and now realize I didn't. Strangels will receive a gorgeous, 6 panel digipak CD of "Crooked". We manufacture and distribute the CDs on our own, sponsored by all you Angels.
We don't have a ton of control over the book - others people pay for, print and distribute the book, so we're not in a position to provide it to Strangels.
oh that's fine. :)
I just wanted to know how many copies of Crooked I might end up owning. lol
I'm confused. No, not confused... Baffled?
So - there's going to be a regular Crooked CD, a Crooked book, a Crooked digipak for Strangels, AND a Crooked box?
Also, the letter on the new home page seems to say that the Crooked book will ONLY be released in the UK, but wildsheep said "I will be ensuring that it is made available to book and record shops worldwide." So, what's the deal here? I live in the US and would absolutely kill to own one of these Crooked books, will it be possible for me to get my hands on one? Is this going to be a limited release? Or will there be a limited amount for purchase by those of us living outside of the UK? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm afraid of missing out on something so special.
As it says on the front of the HHGTTG:
*Don't Panic!*
If it turns out to be a UK only thing (which I suspect is unlikely), then I'll personally get you one and send it !
:)
Dan
ps: look at Scott's message in this thread (nice cover pic too!)
as a non-Strange Angel (i have a small budget to work with, otherwise Id be a member!) I would kindly like clarification - the digipak CD version, will that be available in the shop, or is it another version that will be made available? and when will that be available - same time as subscribers get it? or in june, when the book version comes out as well?
thanks so much!
@halfbornhalfmade / Laura - I should clarify...I can't have you baffled!
There's a Crooked CD in a digipak - Strange Angels get that first. In June, it'll become available for everyone else. No "regular" CD vs. digi or anything like that.
There will be a Crooked book which will definitely be available here in the US - through one source or another (maybe only in our online store, but probably elsewhere too.)
There is a Crooked box which is a collaborative art project limited to 100 units maximum.
See? Not that bad...
x
B
p.s. to "ghostlife"...that should explain it, right? One CD release, in a digipak and available to Strangels very soon, then available to everyone else in June.
hi Billy! Yes that clarifies it, thanks so much! Look forward to getting the CD and the book in June. So this, AND Chapterhouse on tour again? Have I died and gone to heaven? HA! :) Can't wait!
thanks Billy : ) I don't feel baffled anymore.
OK folks, the Amazon UK listing is up and you can preorder Crooked, the book by clicking here.
It will be available from lots of other online retailers soon. More anon.
Billy,
Could you be good enough to give us some guidance as to which site is most beneficial to you and Kristin. Would it be better to wait for the link on this website?
I know you don't get the payback from Amazon.co.uk that you do from the US version. I'm keen to order this, but want to do the best for you guys.
Thanks, Mike
Thanks so much for asking, Mike. In this particular case it won't matter where you order from...as usual, we want you to get the best price and you want us to get the most money.
It'll be fine for you to get it via Amazon UK.
Thanks Billy
So if I understand this correctly, there will only be 100 of the crooked box things? I don't quite understand what it is, but I want it. I get the impression, though, that I can't have it. There's nothing unusual about that, but, am I wrong?
Here's a whole thread on "The Box" in case you missed it.
Thanks derek, I see I did miss that, and it seems to confirm my fear. Sadly, I want it more now, and feel more certain that it will never be mine.
I am watching like a hog, though.
Just checking back in with a progress report.
We are just putting the finishing touches to Crooked, the book. It is being proof read and should be signed off in the next few days.
Jesse has designed a lovely sticker that goes on the front (the book will be shrinkwrapped) explaining the content and the online extras.
The whole thing looks stunning and I hope it will turn out to be a really beautiful item.
The book will have distribution pretty much everywhere with copies being ordered up by suppliers in the US, Canada, Australia, Europe and elsewhere. And, of course, it will be on sale at all the main internet retailers. Amazon already have it listed, as do HMV. The Book Depository is an interesting online shop that ships anywhere in the world for free so that may be an option.
Suffice to say we are doing our best to make sure that wherever you are you can get hold of a copy.
More anon.
Just a quickie to let you know that we are pushing the publication date of Crooked, the book, back to July 8th. Partly to allow for any possible delays as we are printing in the far east and getting anything in and out of Europe at the moment is a nightmare. But also to coincide with Kristin coming to the UK in July.
Hope you can bear to wait a couple more weeks.
