  1. Since this science project is still a work in progress I know it's kinda hard to say right now, but given what's been shared with us to date, I have a couple of favorites.

Mississippi Kite I keep playing this over and over. This is just pure badass. For some reason, I keep seeing this as part of a soundtrack for a trippy Quentin Tarantino movie. This one is different. Much like Blackstone, it's one of those songs that does not "fit" into any typical category. This shows that Kristin has not "settled" into any type of style. If you have specific expections based on prior experiments... you're fucked. All bets are off. Nostradamus did not see this one coming!

Krait I'm a sucker for the sound of the acoustic guitar. The interlude that opens this one had me thinking I was heading in one directrion, then I wind up somewhere else. I like that. This one is so sweet, I have to keep insulin handy when I listen to it. Those ringing chords and the strings! Damn. Damn this is good. The structure of this as a whole knocks me out. I know that all may be tweeked, so I have stashed this one on CD, zip drive, TimeMachine, I like this as is, but I am open to something even more radical being added. How 'bout some oboe!

  2. Around Dusk. It comes from the same place, for me, as Tuesday Night from Hips and Makers. It's absolutely haunting and perfect and moody and gorgeous.

  3. I second both "Around dusk" and "krait" but WAIT YALL - "fortune"! K already said it best: "I'm a total sucker for lead bass."

  4. Ever since its release, I can't get "Fortune" out of my head. Melody-wise, it must be one of Kristin's best. And, of course, it's also great on other levels!

I think the two songs I listened to the most were "Torque" and "Static". "Torque" appeals to the post-Cocteau Twins fan with me with its moody wall of sound, and the lyrics couldn't be more beautiful and moving. "Static" just blows me away. It's still just as fresh and surprising as on the day it was released. I also listened to "Krait" a lot.

I know I'm gushing, but I can't get over how good these CASH tracks are. When "Speedbath" is finished and comes out, it's going to rock my musical world.

  5. I'm with you, Darrell. Krait and Mississippi Kite, hands down. When I hear one, I think, 'HOLYSHIT, this is the best!' then I'll hear the other one and think, 'NO, NO, NO! this is the best!'

  6. i think the one that had the most immediate impact on me was "krait". it had a lot of strength, the vocal performance was fierce, there were elements that accentuated its power (the noisy guitar at the end, i LOVE it when that appears). i loved it right away. the same happened with "torque" (which i once described as being a song that can paint a picture and tell a story just with the music, besides the fact that the lyrics are telling a story too -it's freezing cold in "torque") and with "fortune". i think those were the most immediate to me, but i can't talk of a definitive favourite, there are many ("moan", "speedbath" and "mississippi kite" too, for example).

  7. at the moment my favourite is speedbath. the guitars on that is pure machinery, and the ending is so unbelievably groovy.

  8. I would say Torque and Fortune constantly vie for my "favorite".

  9. I would say it is a neck and neck tie between Around Dusk and Moan. Around Dusk is beautiful, love the drums kicking in for the chorus, and especially love the vocal layering as it ends. Moan is just somehow creepy and sexy to me, the sound of the guitar and the lyrics that don't give too much away. Yummy.

  10. "Morning Birds" and "Mississippi Kite" (and "Slippershell"--the end kills me every time). Morning Birds in particular, just floored me. The guitar work in the first half of the song peeling away to the starkness of the second half.... I'm a sucker for when Kristin does this. And MK just goes.... it rocks my world

  11. "Krait" all the way. I love them all (really) but this one always hits me hard.

  12. Note... I have transferred all of the above to a thread at the K-ning site. Please use that vehicle to continue this conversation.

    Thanks in advanced.

    darrell

  13. slippershell, static, krait and moan top 4 followed by fortune. torque is growing on me. around dusk, depends on the mood as does speedbath and morning birds. elizabeth june...not there yet

  14. All of the Speedbath tracks are currently growing on me like a Russian Vine. It's great when new music does this.

Slippershell is by no means the stand-out favourite but its the one I listen to most.

Q - I understand K played pretty much all of the instruments on the tracks but Slippershell has that wonderful trademark Dave Narcizo trippy drum thing going on. Did he contribute to this track?
