This month's new song is up at CASH and, of course, here on the homepage.
Love.
One of the most stunning things from Kristin in some I think. Hopefully it's not too late to appear on the final Speedbath...
And, of course, amazing... beautiful and haunting. Gave me a big shiver around the 2' mark. Thank you so much, Kristin - again. I feel so lucky, we got so much fantastic music in the past two years or so - Speedbath, Power + Light (single most exciting piece of music I've heard last year, bar none), and all the recent CASH tracks...
EDIT: maybe we'll get a guitar version on Speedbath? I wouldn't say no to that...
Oh my, this is easily the most affecting track for me so far this year. The timbre of Kristin's voice is heart breaking when she hits that last note, and the low throbbing notes in the bridge are amazing. I really, really need to hear this through my good stereo speakers. Thanks Kristin
Hearing this takes me back to the UK tour in May and how much I felt that playing in different venues (such as Burnley Library) made the feel of all the songs that more intimate.
Having this on piano sounds even better than it does on acoustic guitar, and it's beautifully haunting and dramatic, which easily matches the dark feeling of PJ Harvey's "White Chalk" and then some. Beautiful.
K&B, Hearing this song for the first time on the UK tour back in May I thought it was one of the most beautiful songs I'd ever heard and was thrilled to find it was on the CDR's you were selling from the stage. The lyrics and vocals made me wish, yet again, that I could sing without upsetting my dogs and scaring passing children (!) and the guitar sent me home to break out my trusty Les Paul for the first time in far, far too long. If you had asked me a week ago whether that version could ever be bettered my answer would have been a definite no...
Well, that just goes to show how little I know. Wow, what an earth shatteringly, heart achingly, soul stirringly beautiful recording. Even as a Strange Angel I feel like I should be hitting the tip-jar every time I listen to it! No wonder even the horses were crying by the time you finished recording it. Stunning, thank you.
I've been thinking lately that I wish K would do something on piano again.
I never dreamed it would be so moving and powerful.
Thank you so much for sharing your heart with us!
God, this is beautiful. Thank you.
This track is so beautiful and moving. I just have to tell you it almost brings me to tears with your incredible vocals. Thank you so much for your amazing music!
wow.... i really wasn't expecting anything like this. It's so different from the last few songs recorded recently for CASH.
Produced by Billy! Go Billy! Being a dumbass, what exactly does a producer do? Is the flowing, big mood of Flooding something a producer would decide be there?
Edit: Note to self: read the essay FIRST, THEN listen to the music. All my questions have mysteriously been answered by K.
To be honest, in this case it was me trying to get Kristin to do the version of the song I had in my head. That's why she let me "steer".
To her credit, Kristin has the unusual ability to do whatever I ask her to do. That makes calling me a "producer" cheating a little bit, if you ask me. The sound palette we're able to call upon at Rizzo's place made it easy too.
Also? That song can't lose. It's too good to be dimmed by any given treatment.
I'm just glad it exists...and can't wait to hear what K's doing in the studio today and tomorrow.
thanks, Billy. I just read the essay (stupidly, after i posted). It sounds amazing.
This Cash year, the songs keep on getting stronger and stronger, loved 'Glass' the best, but now 'Flooding' is my absolute favorite, this will get a high ranking in my all time favorite TM/KH list! Really a stunning and breathtaking song.
This is why I became a Strange Angel!
Hi all, I'm new to the forum but am an old-time KH fan. I gotta say I'm so thrilled with what Kristin is doing here and have been loving the CASH tracks. I finally broke down and became a strangel tonight too (yay!).
Anyway, this is about Flooding, and I gotta say this track is just killing me. So raw and intense and wonderful. The piano is perfect too...good call Billy!
I recently completed a photography series inspired by music, and Flooding supplied the name for this photo (I submitted this to the +rw page too, but I thought I'd post it here too...hope that's alright).
Just added this to my faves on Flickr... Great work mrkvm, really special. The whole series is beautiful, gotta listen to the songs now...
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks jediroller! Much appreciated. That series wouldn't have happened without the music, and I think 'Flooding' was the perfect ending.
