Best TM show I've ever seen? How can they keep getting better? Simply awesome.

yeah, it was friggin' amazing. I took along a TM virgin and he came out totally blown away.
Yeah, it was the best I've seen the Muses as well... the giggly start of Hate My Way, the singalong of Mania... brilliant stuff x
Agreed - that was an amazing gig last night. I don't have a frame of reference because it's the first time I've seen the Muses live, but I really enjoyed it and can't wait for more! Come back soon!
ITM? review (with a few wee innacuracies)
Possibly the most irritated I've been with a review for a long time and confirmation as to why the "music press" in this country is not worth reading..
"I’d expected quite a few intense Sylvia Plath-esque middle-aged women but it was 60-70% middle-aged and visibly balding men, possible some of them attracted by the possibility that Kristin’s slightly more glamorous half sister Tanya Donnelly"
So, there is both the men and the women in the audience pegged - us ladies were Sylvia Path-esque, whatever that means, and the guys were only after Tanya D. Maybe someone should have told you baldies it was very unlikely that Tanya would make an appearance and you'd only waste your journey. And did no-one tell you to stay at home unless you had a full head of hair, and weren't, like, all middle aged?
"Her intense yeowl is something that Courtney Love definitely took notes on, and although a different kind of artist, bears comparison with Patti Smith for her intense and singular vision and lyrics"
That's right - can't possibly review a female musician without comparing her to another female musician. Who else are female? Oh yeah, that Courtney and that Patti, stick them in....
I'm away to lie down..... !

Irritating, I agree, but at least it's just an indie thing. Even worse for me was The Guardian's disappointing review. 3/5 stars in today's (or any) music climate? My arse.
Pretty sure the ITM? piece was positive. My criticism of it would be that the writer probably enjoyed the show more than she managed to convey. ITM? isn't typical music press either - there's no paid staff so the reviews are written by people like me.(Not that I've ever written for ITM? !)
Don't have a problem with much of the writing in the Guardian piece - it seems at odds with the 3/5 rating. And the 'backward looking' comment is indisputably true - but then it's hardly unexpected given that the tour's promoting a compilation!
As a positive, both pieces are exposure for the band and a reminder to others that TM still exist. Lazy comparisons may have been used, but they're still hooks for those less familiar with the band. Unfortunately not everyone is as obsessive about the Muses as we are!
PS Words finally added to the review.
I can understand where you're coming from, but I've read Manicpopthrills, and plenty of other blogs, and neither you nor they use writing for free as an excuse for resorting to cliche. I just think it's a wee bit too snide in both treatment of the muses, and the audience.
Anyway, I'm still buzzin' from last night!

Yeah it was the best gig I've been to in the 20 years of my existence. I got my first t-shirt of hopefully many. As an introduction to the TM live experience it was a corker. Thanks to everyone who made it happen.
I didn't stick around for too long afterwards so did I miss anything eg. signings
Oh no! I didn't see a merch table at the gig or I definitely would have visited! Oh well, maybe next time.
For what it's worth, regarding music press, while I strongly disagree that the show was only 3/5, some people are funny that way. I was reviewed the Juliana Hatfield show at Oran Mor for the Sunday Mail and she didn't do anything wrong so I gave her 5/5 only to be told that "nobody like that will get 5/5 - U2 don't get 5/5" - why not> Why don't people who do nothing wrong get 5/5?!
If that show was half as good as the one I saw in NYC, it should have been 4/5. Newbies standing behind me were yelling to each other things like "OH MY GOD HOW HAVEN'T I KNOWN ABOUT THIS BAND BEFORE TODAY?!?!"
The Guardian is going to have to work pretty hard to make up for that rating.
Just an 8/5 for the Bowery performance? That's it? ;)
Got to agree, Carol, still buzzin!
Worth pointing out that the Guardian review was of the Manchester show - and in one of the comments a fan did say it was a sluggish start, so maybe it WAS only really a 6/5 show!
La Terrasse's review of Monday:
http://la-terrasse.blogspot.com/2011/11/throwing-muses-oran-mor-glasgow-7th.html
Sunday Mail gave the show a 3 star rating today. The actual text of the review was almost entirely factual with no comment on the performance. Unfortunately it wasn't written by David Pollock who did a positive review of K's 2nd Cabaret Voltaire show in August,
A review in today's Independent Newspaper...
The UK press is really disappointing me on this tour. Paragraph one is dedicated to K's hair style, color, clothing, jewelry choices, misspells Tanya's name, misstates their relationship, and explains that a lot of time has passed between now and 1981. Nice work.
And another three star review? OK, I'm biased, but...3 stars? WTF? So it was just an average show, then? Not impressive or interesting especially?
oh Paul, you've gotta stop reading these! I did, until you just made me, and they've gone and called her "wayward"! WTF? i'm offended by THAT.
Yeah I didn't like that part either :)
So that's what happened to David Pollock!
It was a show which perhaps spoke most to those who were there or who have an affinity for those times, but one which only enhanced Hersh's reputation as an artist whose work deservedly endures.
Seems pretty positive really, other than the star rating. I've never really thought that appropriate for music in any case.
Another review (The Cure)
The set is beautifully, brutally timeless.
4/5. Maybe they just don't do 5!
