  1. This is I suppose for Billy...

With the book to promote have you considered attending the Hay-on-Wye Book Festival next year? It is on from 26 May until 5 June 2011. They also have quite a bit of music on; P J Harvey was on a couple of years ago. So K could do a few readings and a few songs.

The 2011 website hasn't properly appeared yet, but here is the 2010 site..

...you could also tie it in with a few UK dates!

    Just an idea.....Mike

  2. I second that. I would DEFINITELY show up. On a smaller scale, how about the Ledbury Poetry Festival which also showcases music: http://www.poetry-festival.com/ K's lyrics definitely qualify as poetry so she would be far from out of place.

  3. PLEASE keep these coming...we need UK (and USA, for that matter) arts/literary festival suggestions...

  4. Maybe it's a little too late to get on the lineup, but there's always the great Boston Book Festival!

  6. End of the Road Festival (Dorset) is my favourite festival of them all, similar to Latitude. They do readings at an openair 'library in the woods' each day, fantastic setting so long as it doesn't rain (!).

Plus Kristin solo is perfect for the sort of line-up they attract there. I mention her on the 'artist suggestions' page each year, and I'm not the only one who does I've noticed.

  7. The advantage of the likes of Hay Festival is that you only pay for the events that you attend. So you would expect to pay £12 to £15 for the likes of Kristin; whereas a music festival usually involves buying a £100+ ticket

  8. K might be doing something small-ish with the Boston Book Festival, on the 16th of Oct. Not quite confirmed yet, but stay tuned...

  9. This would have been perfect, but it's little over a month away :o(

  10. I can only endorse the above comments about The End of The Road Festival. It's a great little festival with a very intimate, laid back feeling, slanted towards indie and Americana.

  11. Alistair - next year, I'd say...esp since the book comes out in 2011 in the UK.

  12. Alistair, that Nantwich Words and Music Festival would be ideal for me; it's only 30-miles down the road.
    Right Billy, get it booked!!

    Mike

  13. For the UK some options are (all Radio 4 - it's what I listen to - I AM a boring old git!):

The book of the day slot - 15 minutes (minus intro) slot at 9:45am and 12:15am (second is a repeat of the first) Monday to Friday.

'Woman's Hour' might be an option. I know is a bit labelling of Kristin as a woman, but she is taking control of life, business and music, and that's impressive and empowering for women.

I am not sure if 'Front Row' would pick up on the book, but it might. 'Loose Ends' would be an opportunity to play a song or two, plus chat, but I am not sure if the rather avuncular delivery would suit.

A friend of mine is a published poet so he might have more ideas about events not on the radio. I might see him at the weekend to ask him (memory permitting).

  15. Boringoldgit,

As another boring old git and Radio 4 fan, don't forget the 10.45 p.m "Book at Bedtime" 15 minute slot which runs Mon - Fri. This can run for one, two or more weeks depending on the length of the abridgement of the work concerned.

Apart from being interviewed and performing on Woman's Hour before, I'm sure I remember her being on Loose Ends (in the Ned Sherrin days) years ago - but I may be imagining this!

  16. Being a Scot, I am of course biased, but the Edinburgh Festival next August/September would be a must............book festival, music festival and one of the biggest in the world.

Would be great to see Kristin in Scotland.....

  17. Though it's not a festival, the Iron Horse Entertainment Group has a great new outdoor "stadium" venue (Mountain Park) in Holyoke.

It's awesome and adorable and would be perfect for a Throwing Muses show!
