...if a song is a TM, 50' or KH solo song?
I'm a longtime fan, but new Strange Angel subscriber. I have to say, subscribing has got me listening to all the great downloads that are available but more importantly, has gotten me more focused on the studio albums (which remain, to me, even in these strange musical times, to be the ultimate "artistic statement" that a musician/band makes).
So, my question for Kristin is - how do you know whether a song is going to be a TM, 50' or KH song? Do you just write songs, and worry later about which band will play them? Or do you set out to write a 50' song, or a TM song, etc. How often does it happen that a song gets written for one and winds up getting played by another (something tells me that Slippershell might fall into this category)? Do you ever write a song and think that it would be PERFECT for some other band (for example do you ever write a song and say "there, a Pearl Jam song!")?
One reason this comes to mind is the fact that the solo work is so varied. However, the album Sky Motel seems to veer quite close to TM material (as does LTSLAS at times)...so how was it determined that those songs would be KH songs?
Sorry if this stuff has been asked before, but the writing process of a songwriting genius is of obvious interest to me. And besides, John Lennon doesn't give straight answers these days!
