  1. Please note that the Manchester Academy website says that the gig there is now at Club Academy and not Academy 2. Original tickets still valid.
Heres link to the page Muses Manchester.

Also just seen that this coming weeks concerts are in The Sunday Times Critical List in the Culture section.

  2. I have mixed feelings about this...Club Academy is a great venue, but alot smaller than Academy 2; which means that ticket sales have been poor.
But those of you that are going are in for a treat.

  3. This is sad news. Manchester has such an amazing reputation as a music city, you would think a venue the size of Academy 2 would easily sell. It does appear the lack of coordinated promotion is

All I can say is we need to up our game if we want TM to come back to tour the "new" album. These shows cannot be financially viable, and we have been down this road before. Touring should be the icing on the cake.

  4. Hadn't heard of Club Academy - was dreading someone saying it's smaller :(

  5. I'm not sure if I've got this right, I have been to Academy 3 and I thought Club Academy was Academy 3 renamed.
However, it appears that it is a seperate venue, similar size (250-300)and again in the main Student Union Building, but in the basement.

    See you there, Mike

  6. Hi folks,

Club Academy is indeed in the basement of the Students Union Building. Academy 2 is on the middle floor, 3 on the top (where Kristin played in 2007).

Ticket sales for a lot of gigs in Manchester have been slow to be honest, Pop Will Eat Itself was moved from Academy 2 to Club Academy for the same reason. The Academy also moved their box office to a little office at the side of Academy 1, and not everyone knows where that is now..

That said, better to fill a smaller venue with proper fans rather than third fill a bigger venue...

  7. Guys, The basement (club academy) is bigger than the Academy 3. I saw the Polyphonic Spree there a few years ago and they all fitted on the stage! Also The Joy formidable earlier this year. Don't be down it's still a great venue. Only down is there are a few pillars that can obstruct views, sound is good tho! See you Friday / Sunday. Paul.

  8. Billy

What time are Throwing Muses due on in Manchester?

  9. this is probably going to sound naive, and i'm sorry, but they're so good, the make something so good that i find it really sad that they have to struggle so much. in Barcelona last Sunday the venue was half full and on one hand it was obvious that everyone that was there really cared about the band and knew their work with devotion, and that made the atmosphere really cool. they don't have a hipster audience that fills their shows and don't care. on the other hand i think that many of us are worried that they won't be able to come back to our city if they don't sell enough tickets, and that's so sad. it bugs me and i'd cry with rage, really. people are blind. and then everyone goes to pixies and dinosaur jr shows "cause you have to be there". it's so unfair.

    damn.

  10. Superfurry is right - Club Academy is a better venue than Academy 3. Also much better for those with mobility problems (eg. crutches) as there are a few steps & usually a few chairs around. Which will make my gig experience far far better :)

Also if anyone wants to let Bernard know - Marcus Miller is in town the same day at the Band on the Wall!

  11. Another excellent evening, slightly different set from Holmfirth. I'm on home ground, so wasn't driving, thus had more to drink and didn't take a list of the tracks.
Highlight for me was, "This one's for Echo, we don't know it" followed by 'Say Goodbye',then at the end of the song, "How come you lot know it and we don't"

  12. Deaf but happy

  13. Really enjoyed tonight. Particularly liked the solo acoustic "Fish".
Was near the back but had good view (except for David -- I could only see the top of his head!)
Ears still ringing, Me still singing.

  14. Say Goodbye sounded bloody great despite the modesty from K :) two wonderful gigs, loved them both.

  15. Say Goodbye?! My god, I hope they play that in Cardiff tomorrow

  16. I recorded Say Goodbye in Manchester and uploaded it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWth3KlnU0g
It was taken on my iPhone from the back of the room to try to get better sound, but this means you cannot see much!
If you search my other videos you can see Hate My Way from the same show - taken from next to the stage, so the video is much better, the audio not so good however.
There's also some other videos from the other nights I went to on there too.

  17. I made a couple of recordings, picture quality was great but the volume overwhelmed the puny inbuilt microphone so they were only fit for the recycling bin. External mic isn't really suitable for a gig :)

  18. Nice video's Andrew, particularly impressed by Dave's sideways drumming on Say Goodbye. Hate was quite brutal at Shepherds Bush too!

and Tine, there's something for you too. Stealth posting?

there is also quite good amsterdam footage here, most of the set in six or seven segments.
