  1. hey Billy,
I've wanted to be a strange angel ever since CASH started, but being that I'm a struggling musician with a lot of student loan debt to pay off, I decided not to... Now I think I've decided to just do it anyway. But I have some questions first. Is the $30 per quarter automatically withdrawn from an account or do subscribers receive a bill? And do we pay $10 monthly or the $30 every 3 months? And if I were to join now, would I receive the stuff that subscribers have already gotten, or just the goodies that are made available after I join?
That's all the questioning I can think of now. Thanks for any help you can give.

  2. As a fellow SA, I can at least answer your first two questions. In my experience,
    - the $30 are automatically withdrawn from your PayPal account, every three months, on your subscription's anniversary date;
    - $30 every quarter.

You will gain access to a subscribers page on the CASH site, from which you can download the Pittsburgh bootleg, the WIP sampler and WIP 6. I would assume that anything that was mailed out before you joined (i.e., the quarterly prints) will not be sent again, but I suppose only Billy could answer that for sure. I know that the CD version of the Pittsburgh boot has been discontinued, and that all subscriber-exclusive recordings will be made available as downloads from now on.

  3. Well done Franck -- thank you!

  4. I think my subscription expired. do I have to re sign up?

  5. @Heather: your subscription won't expire unless your credit card expires...your subscription should will continue until you cancel it.

  6. Just want to add that the downloads on the subscriber page include FLAC lossless versions of Pittsburgh and WIP6, so the absence of a physical CD that is mailed to us is moot. Thanks, Billy and co., for providing lossless versions!

  7. thanks everyone! just a few more...

so I'm in the process of signing up for strange angel status, it's taking a few days because paypal is being difficult.

The subscriber page says "You get all of Kristin's new commercial CD's free of charge, and ahead of release date." Does this include 50 foot/muses releases, or just K's solo stuff?

Also, I'm wondering what "guest list privileges" means. I've already got a ticket to see TM in Brooklyn on March 12, once I'm officially a strange angel, could I be added to the guest list for that show?

  8. The "Kristin's new commercial CDs" refers to Kristin Hersh solo, 50FOOT and Throwing Muses will have different/separate arrangements with CASH.

If you are a Strange Angel you could get on the list for that show provided there are guest list spots available and you'll have to email Billy for that.

  9. Actually, I'm going to have to correct the Web Ho here (sorry tine)..."all of Kristin's new commercial CD's" means any KH, 50Foot or Muses CD's from now on. That's just how valuable Strange Angels are to us...

This is news to Tine (we haven't spoken about it lately), but it's still true.

And yes, if you wanna sell your ticket to the Bklyn show, you can come on in as our guest - provided the list isn't yet full - and it's not today...

  10. grrrrr.

  11. Does being the "Guest List" allow us to meet Kristin, or just get into the show?

I, too, already have tickets to the March 15th Cambridge show (my first time seeing K live!). I don't mind contributing to the box office, but if there are extra perks I'd look into getting on the guest list, if it's not too late.

  12. Spots on the guest list are good for admittance to the show for you +1. But we're trying to figure out a way to create a Strange Angel "meet & greet" kinda thing without a) getting in trouble with venues for keeping folks on premises after the show or b) creating a situation where Kristin is speaking a lot after a gig (which as it happens is the most stressful thing for her voice).

    Just stuff we're thinking about.

Plus, any Strange Angel with a burning need to ask a question or say hi can always call...The Batphone!

  13. OK, I can imagine a meet would be tough to arrange.

As for the Batphone, I'd feel weird calling just to gush. I can do that here!

  14. Gushing is good...but you're right, it probably doesn't fit into the category of "burning need".

  15. I DID IT!!! I'm a Strange Angel!!!! Oh wow I'm so excited.

So of course I just tried to log in to the subscriber page, and was told that my e-mail address isn't registered. How long is the wait?

and re: Brooklyn show, I could give my ticket to the friend I'm bringing and then could I be added to the guest list? In that case it would just be me, no +1

  16. @halfbornhalfmade: Yay! Congrats...your login should work right away unless you paid with an electronic check or bank transfer. In that case PayPal sends us a message once your transaction is complete and that could be a coupla days.

If that's not it, double check that you're using your PayPal email address to login...that's how the CASH system knows you.

Let me know if you have continuing issues, ok?

  17. Thanks for all the information. I got some help at Wild Vanilla too. I am becoming a strange angel for my birthday next week.

  18. a suggestion... perhaps the meet + greet before the show instead?? Of course I'm sure you guys have a lot of goings on what with sound check and all before the show...

  19. hey Billy? forgive me for being impatient, but - paypal told me that my payment went through, and my bank account told me so as well - but I still can't sign in to the subscriber page. problem?

  20. @halfbornhalfmade: Yes, that'd be a problem...if you're trying to log in with the same address that you use with PayPal and it's still not working, then email help at cashmusic dot org and cc me...we'll get it sorted out!

  21. @halfbornhalfmade: I just found your payment at PayPal and your echeck is still showing as uncleared...sorry...in fact they estimate it clearing sometime after the 12th...

email me if you wanna, and I can give you more info...

  22. hey thanks Billy.

also? oh my god oh my god oh my god!!! so so so happy to find out, via your e-mail, that 50foot will be opening for TM's US dates. I'm assuming that includes the Brooklyn show... correct? dude... if they play Power + Light in its entirety right in front of my face I will just fall over and die. Or cry. Or both. The more I listen to it the more I think it might be my favorite thing that K's ever done. :-) Thanks, B & K, for making my day - yet again. No one else does it quite like you guys.

  23. Speaking of 50'~ opening for TM....

Does Cambridge have an 11:00 PM music curfew like most of Massachusetts? I'm just worried that if the show doesn't start until 8:00, there won't be time for three acts.

  24. Has anyone phoned the Batphone yet? It's such a sweet idea, but I'd feel a bit silly doing it!

  25. Yeah, ellen.

I love Kristin and would probably have fun hanging out with her ~ but I can't think of anything I'd need to call her about. (Really, I hate using the phone in general...)

  26. Lisa Fletcher suggested we rename it the RATphone...D'oh! What were we thinking??

    Now we wanna change it.

  27. bat phone, rat phone...I feel so out of the loop.
I'm trying to do the Brooklyn show...but to be honest, i've never been to Brooklyn
and I'm a little frightened to drive there. i don't know why.

  28. brooklyn's not bad at all and, for the most part, way quieter than manhattan. it's just more mysterious since there ain't no street/avenue grid. williamsburg does have numbered streets so you should be able to figure things out okay.

<old man voice>when we lived in new jersey, the thought of crossing two rivers (shush, i know the east river is an estuary) to go to brooklyn was daunting. then again, back then, there were hardly any venues in brooklyn so we almost never had to. which made it even more daunting when we had to go over there for something. it was like another planet so we called it "mars." and still do.</old man voice>

  29. ratphone? what about paradoxical uncalling?
