  2. Wow. You're fast. Yes, Kristin will be doing an Upstairs at the Square event at Barnes & Noble on the day of Rat Girl's publication! We're thrilled.

I might as well give you guys the rundown here and now, since you'll probably know about this stuff soon anyway!

We're also pretty dang happy to announce that K has confirmed an appearance in Amanda Stern's wonderful The Happy Ending Reading Series, also in NYC at Joe's Pub...on Sept 15.

After that, she'll be in Portland, OR to appear on Live Wire on October 9...and sometime on the 9th or 10th she'll be doing a Wordstock event in PDX, too.

There's lots more Rat Girl stuff coming...including a super-cool Flavorpill event in NYC in late October, soon to be announced.

  3. Is she going to release a reading to iTunes and Amazon?

After hearing her at the Iron Horse, I think it would be pretty popular.

(Not to add more work, or anything...)

  4. There is a provision in K's deal for an audio book...but no plans at this time for the production of one. If Penguin passes on the chance, perhaps Atlantic will do it...

And If they pass, perhaps we'll do an abridged audio edition.

  5. When I lived in NY and NJ, I loved how often I got to see Kristin.

When I lived in Portland, I loved how often I got to see Kristin.

I know I've been spoiled, but now that I live in Wisconsin, hearing about these things makes me want to quit my job and just move back to civilization so I can attend these events. I think living in Portland at the same time Kristin was there should have spoiled me enough for a decade, but I already need a fix. Kristin is a drug, and I live in a dry county.

  6. I am sooo there. at all of it. in NY at least. although, I've never been to Portland.

  7. There may be a pretty big crowd for this one. That's on August 31st, right?

P.S. firepile, as a transplanted Minnesotan in Philly, I empathize. She's big in the Twin Cities, but come Back East and get a fix soon.

  8. Hey B,
Will there be an admission fee for the Border's event? Is it going to be like a show with a guest list?

  9. Hi halfbornhalfmade, I've been to heaps of Union Sq Borders authors talks and musician shows and there's never any fee.

For bestselling authors and chart topping musicians you need to arrive an hour ahead for a seat, but that shouldn't be a problem with Kristin. It's easy to pass the time with several floors of books and magazines though :)

  10. Thx for answering Kareinny...

No, there's never a fee for these Barnes & Noble things. Should be fun, too. I'd encourage any of you who can make it to do so...K can sure use the support.

  11. Aw, and I had basically decided this morning that I was not going to try and make it to this one, just because making a trip to the city is kind of a big ordeal for me and I already have another city show trip planned in the beginning of September (Pavement reunion! Woo!), but after reading your response, Billy, I'm back to being "on the fence." Fences aren't very comfortable...

  12. Laura Elise...you always go way outta your way to support Kristin. Please don't read my message as pressure! Obviously, it's great when you're there...but don't stress.
    xo

  13. Are there any plans to do any in the UK, Billy?
Not sure how the timings of the tour and book release work out.

    Mike

  14. Found this this morning:

  15. If an abridged audio version is done it might be worth considering pitching it to Radio 4 in the UK. There is a 15 minute slot (repeated again the same day) for book readings, the normal format being that a book is read over a single week (Monday to Friday). Except when it is being used for "100 Objects that Changed the World" but they will run out of objects before too long!

  16. Can I just say that I really would like to see as many of you as possible there at the Barnes and Noble thing on the US pub date (Aug 31)... It's the first Rat Girl event ever and I'm hoping it's huge for Kristin. She needs your support on this special day.

Consider this my formal request; if you can make it, please do! We'll try and make it worth your while.

Save the date: Tuesday, August 31 at 7pm - Barnes & Noble, Union Square, NYC

    Lots of love,

    B

  17. I will be at all 3 events in NYC this fall!!

  18. I'd love to be at the NYC event. But a Tuesday is just impossible, I'm sorry to say. I'll have make do with sending good vibes and support from afar...

  19. Billy, any possibilities of any West Coast author events for "Rat Girl"?
