I don't think there has been any official info about the tracklisting, but some people have shared their thoughts on what would sound well on the ning: http://wildvanilla.ning.com/forum/topic/show?id=2163441%3ATopic%3A10228 -- hope you find this interesting!

I was just logging in here to start this same thread! I have no idea of the running order, but I think the songs sort of naturally bunch up, with the first handful belonging together and the second handful belonging together. in the running order I made, I will say that the last three songs go "Fortune" then "Elizabeth June" then ending the disc with "Moan" Those three seem to move together very nice, the instrumental ending of Fortune goes right into EJ, then that ends and the sexy slide that starts moan kicks you a bit. plus something unsettling and yet proper about ending the collection with the phrase "I'm jumping out of my skin again".

My tentative order. This is more for narrative than for listening, though:

    Moan
    Slippershell
    Fortune
    Torque
    Around Dusk
    Krait
    Static
    Speedbath
    Elizabeth June
    Mississippi Kite
    Morning Birds
    Rubidoux

I really still want it to end with "Morning Birds." I cannot shake the impression that this needs to be the final song. :)

If Billy or Kristin is reading this,

Can we get an official running order for the Cash released 'Speedbath' album.

If not, that's cool. I'll use my imagination.

Nice to have the whole thing now. It's been a trip hearing a new song every month or so.

Morning Birds and Rubidoux both work as endings for me... just they're radically different endings. About as different as they can possibly get.

I think Torque works really well as the ending.

It adds a lot of weight and finality.

i've gotten used to listen to the songs in the order they've been uploaded, and any other order feels strange to me (though i've listened to them in random order many times). i think "fortune" and "rubidoux" work well together at the very end.

@Cup: There isn't one right now. Neither the recordings nor the running order are set because K doesn't consider the record done. These are just versions, some may be final, some not. We're enjoying reading your thoughts on running order though...Keep 'em coming!

"Morning Birds" has been my album-closer from the moment it came out. It is by far my favorite track, but this new one, "Rubidoux", is the perfect coda. There's the thundering and whimsical finish of MB, but then "Rubidoux" takes you up into the stratosphere, and I love to finish an album with the sensation of floating.

One way to sort this collection is by album side. Some of these tracks are more direct guitar rock/blues, while others are sonic mixes. When you think in terms of album sides, then you have the opportunity for two opening tracks and two ending tracks, making this even more fun!

So here's my idea for today-

    Side A:
    Speedbath
    Around Dusk
    Torque
    Krait
    Elizabeth June
    Mississippi Kite

    Side B:
    Slippershell
    Fortune
    Moan
    Static
    Morning Birds
    Rubidoux

mmmm...I just had a vision of Speedbath on vinyl...
Actually, I think the tracks *do* lend themselves to a 2-sided play... and since I like playing with tracklists, I kind of like this one...right now, at least (I am all about alternating between the blues-ier stuff and the more atmospheric, apparently):

    Side A:
    Slippershell
    Around Dusk
    Krait
    Speedbath
    Mississippi Kite
    Rubidoux

    Side B:
    Moan
    Static
    Elizabeth June
    Fortune
    Torque
    Morning Birds

When I finally managed to burn the tracks onto disc, due to my complete hopelessness in such matters they came out in alphabetical order (a la 10-4 All). I thought "Oh no, I wanted them in the order they were posted". Then I thought, why? as they won't be in that order on the final album, and it will be different anyway.

I then listened to it .....and it really works! It has got a real strong heart to it somehow. Whatever the order, it's a super collection....something you can get lost in. The songs have been allowed to stretch out and breathe(unlike LTSLAS?). Well done!!

    It runs like this:

    Around Dusk
    Elizabeth June
    Fortune
    Krait
    Mississippi Kite
    Moan
    Morning Birds
    Rubidoux
    Slippershell
    Speedbath
    Static
    Torque

    Yes please to vinyl!

I've got used to listening to the songs in the order of release.
It's been a kind of natural process and i think they sit together quite well in that order.

Oh, yes...vinyl will have to happen.

@Pegasus: I totally agree! I ended up in alphabetical order when I got the lossless versions a few songs ago and actually liked it more than the release order.

Adding the last few in that order still works very well. I know it sounds cheesy, but people should check it out.

It simply has to be this way. Trust me. I pretend that I'm a professional:

    1) Mississppi Kite
    2) Torque
    3) Speedbath
    4) Static
    5) Krait
    6) Slippershell
    7) Moan
    8) Fortune
    9) Rubidous
    10) Around Dusk
    11) Morning Birds
    12) Elizabeth June

    moan
    krait
    morning birds
    speedbath
    torque
    around dusk
    mississippi kite
    fortune
    rubidoux

i put 'em in this order....and i am sorry if i offend anyone, but i had to edit out a track. can't wait for the final release as the volume leveling is driving me crazy with the different songs...

    thanks,
    wb

Okay... i think the only song presented in this series thus far that has a seriously distinct production difference from all the rest is "torque" - i love the track, it's fantastic and perfectly evocative etc [and the fan r/w's have been really fascinating] but i think it is the most divergent production-wise from the other _speedbath_ tracks... granted, this is the only track that Mudrock produced and so of course there will be differences between his ears and K's... i think everybody giving their 2 cents re: track order is very nice & democratic but really, i've been listening to them in release order and honestly i think we all should refrain from personally opining til we get the final version, as plenty of shit is guaranteed to be [at the very least] tweaked... im just going to back down and defer to what i know are K's flawless instincts. Yeah!

If i correctly remember a long ago stats class the number of possible permutations to the running order of 12 songs is given by factorial 12, appropriately abbreviated as 12! This number = 479 001 600. As it presently stands the album is about 55 minutes long, so it would take more than 50 millenia to play all possible combinations. Would Speedbath be my eternal soundtrack of choice? Hell yeah (maybe see you there).

Meanwhile i’ll live with chronological order and the occasional random shuffle while entrusting K to defy statistics and skilfully hit the lottery jackpot wrt optimal track sequence. Though like wb i’ve opted for deletion of ej.

But how cool would it be if itunes or winamp or whatever allowed sharing of running order ideas by simply swapping little metadata text files like playlists?
