Many of you may have seen this, but just in case...from a K tweet just moments ago:

kristinhersh a special prize for my Strange Angel subscribers, full stream of the new record; login here: http://bit.ly/67f85l - more new stuff tomorrow

How cool is that? With goodies like this, I don't see how any fan of Kristin's could NOT be a Strange Angel!

    tracklisting?

    Posted 7 months ago #
  4. @ wb:
    1. mississippi kite
    2. moan
    3. sand
    4. glass
    5. fortune
    6. coals
    7. crooked
    8. krait
    9. flooding
    10. rubidoux

there are different track lists for the vinyl release and the CD release. this is the track list for the current stream, i think it's the same as the CD list. the vinyl has the same 10 songs but in a slightly different order.

@ebenezer: i feel for you. i didn't subscribe for a long time because my financial situation was too tight. eventually i decided it was a necessity - like food and shelter - but i'm still struggling to make ends meet.

Surely Slippershell must be on the final CD release.

It's one of the most powerful individual pieces of music anybody has made in the last two or three years!

Still, it's K's call in the end!

'slippershell' won't be on the final record. tracklist is different for cd and vinyl, but there were only two songs that changed positions (maybe due to problems to fit them in the same order of the cd on the two sides of the vinyl).
i'm not a Strange Angel myself (sadly for me, though i wish i can someday) but both tracklists were posted at WildVanilla last month when 'mississippi kite' and 'coals' were premiered.

any reviews please, you lucky listeners? :)

It is pretty amazing, but we KNEW that already from the Cash versions. I personally dont think that there are many tracks as radically different to the 'original' as Mississippi Kite is, but you can hear the differences. And it does sound fantastic, great production. Krait is still stunning and the version of Flooding (guitar) is just beautiful.
When i first saw the track listing i was gutted that Slippershell and Static didnt make the final cut, but wouldnt they make fantastic Throwing Muses tracks...

wow, i just had to blink twice and open my eyes cause -i don't know why- all these weeks i believed that i had seen 'quick' in the final tracklisting, and now i realize it's not! it's one of my absolute favourites. i understand how special it is when a song makes it to an album, but these songs that are being part of CASH are great studio recordings and have a very special life of their own in a different way.

  12. Ooh! "Static" as a Throwing Muses song!!! That's the best idea I've heard in a while... someone notify Krisitn, quick!!!!

I was bummed at the absence of "Around Dusk" and "Morning Birds" and "Opiates". Oh well. Like Silverfrown pointed out, it almost makes a song more special to be only available as a CASH download rather than on an album. I've been wondering for a while when/if the CASH downloads will expire (be taken down and no longer available to download)

@ halfbornhalfmade - the CASH tracks will "never" be taken down...and the unused songs will never be out of consideration for future projects (TM, FFW, KH solo)...

What a beautiful, cohesive piece of art! The soundtrack to my life gets richer every time K releases a new song, much less an entire album worth of them. I do have to admit, other than the obvious ones (Mississippi Kite, Coals, Flooding), I can't really tell the differences between the rest of the tracks and their CASH counterparts (though I've only listened to the stream 3 times so far and recognize that I have a very untrained ear, lol). Not that I'm complaining--I can't imagine anyone, even K, being able to improve upon the CASH version of "Sand" or, really, most of these songs. Anyone out there able to confirm/deny any differences in the rest of the album?

I am really excited to hear this on vinyl, I have to say. I think there are some subtle differences/textures to various tracks (the ones that changed most have been noted). I, too, am sad some songs didn't make the cut, but the cohesive sound of what is here is really fantastic--blues-folk-rock, it's all over the place and yet it sounds "whole," if that makes sense. It's a perfect sound track for a day in LA where it's both raining and sunny at the same time.

Kristin's playing live drums on most, if not all the songs now. That, and a couple of subtle lil' things are generally where the differences are.

Happy you're enjoying the record. I feel like K made some really tough calls in order to create a really cohesive piece of work. You've all been privy to much more of the process than usual. Hope that's been part of the fun.

so sad about no Slippershell. It's been my favourite track since I first heard it. Aah well. Thanks for the stream. I've listened to the first couple of songs and now I wonder whether I should make myself wait until I have the actual CD.

I have listened to the album in its entirety about 20 times (because I have that kind of time lately!!!) and I must say I am thoroughly impressed. It just moves from one piece of music to the next so fluidly, nd when I listened to it on headphones, the layers really become much clearer, you can hear what the re-recording and mixing really added to the original tracks. I love love love the drum parts added to Sand, and the ending of Krait is perfect. For me though, the entire album builds up to Flooding, which is just a stunner. I can't wait to have this in my iPod and to have that gorgeous artwork in my hands!

@muser - Slippershell isn't going anywhere...no need to be sad! It's still there...and it can still be your favorite song!

    @stevenmanik - now you're making our day.

Just have to say thank you one more time!! I've played this album about 12 times now and it gets better with each listen. My boyfriend and my roommates are all starting to get into it too (not that they have much of a choice in the matter, lol)!

a question for the deee-lovely billyo and/or tine: if i was one of those very poor dime-a-day people from back in the day who had to cancel his subscription many moons ago (still poor), yet was able to login and hear the stream, is that something you'd want to know about? i feel like a salahi at the white house.

We've made the decision to never disallow anyone who ever supported Kristin. For now, that's practical and sustainable. But thank you for the scrupulous honesty, Neil. You're a prince.

When I first looked at this tracklisting, I was gutted not to see Slippershell or Gin on there, and no Morning Birds kinda sucked too.

I've been thinking about it a lot though. As long as Slippershell stays part of the live solo set, I'll be cool. It was AWESOME in Glasgow last year and I'd love to hear it again in the same way. However, don't y'all think it would make an awesome L'~ song? Imagine Rob's funky drumming and Bernard slapping the shit out his bass on there. That's Slippershell's future, I reckon. Gin could conceivably be a Sunny Border Blue type solo number, but it could just as easily become a Muses song. My first thought when I heard it was that it could have fitted neatly on to University if it had a few minor tweaks to fit Dave's style. And Morning Birds with it's jerky rhythm and unexpected tempo change couldn't be more of a Muses song if you nailed the birds to a cross.

If this is what happens to these songs in future, I expect credit, at least in the heads of you guys. :-p

A previous topic suggested "late January" for the release, guessing this is going to slip a little?

  29. @safari4ad: "Sand" is a bit shorter... In the middle section where she repeats "I hope you find your way home" the rhythm guitar comes in as soon as she starts singing that line, so I think she repeats it fewer times before going back into "to the country". And I think "Krait" is a bit longer, there are more 'noises' in the background at the ending. I've only been able to listen to the album twice yet, but those are the differences I've picked up.

@Billy: thank you for the response!

I hope all of us complaining about our favorite songs not making it onto the final release doesn't discourage Kristin from continuing to share her 'process' with us.

Should Strange Angels be expecting the tangible album in the mail soon?

Thanks halfborn! "Crooked" has been on hold this week in favor of "Sunray Venus" and "Red Heaven", which is currently enjoying a revival in my car right now. "Sunny Border Blue" has also been on pretty heavy rotation lately... New Kristin, new Muses, old Muses... life is good.
