  1. Oh. My. God.

It's beautiful and sounds like heaven. We're in tears again. This is unbelievable!

This weekend we're going to (video)record Kristin playing those 3 brand-new songs (in HD!) on that brand-new guitar. We should be posting that video for all ya'll who gave (or wanted to give and missed the chance) by Monday.

So, so grateful. You are amazing.

  2. I'm so happy that you have received and love the guitar! Can't wait to hear it! Love to you both... Karen

  3. Fantastic. Happy that you love the guitar. Hugs. Silba

  4. Awesome. Can't wait to see what it looks like.

  5. I was thinking the same thing. How about a picture?

  6. Yeah, pictures. Can we have a Kristin with an Eye overload? Please. :-)

  7. I second the desire for pictures.

  8. So, I don't understand.... Did they custom-make a neck for it that's designed to work with her hands?

If so, she's going to make some incredible music! I can't wait to hear it!

  9. @Conski: As before, Collings made this entire guitar for Kristin, not just the neck.

It's made to fit her body, her arms, her fingers. Bill Collings picked out the wood from a stack of sheets of wood just for her desired tone and character.

When you play guitar 3-4 hours a day, every day, at minimum, small imperfections become larger problems. Physical accommodations become bad habits. This guitar is a custom made professional tool, produced for a mission-critical application...

I'll try and get a picture up soon...K may not like that idea...the video may have to be the unveiling.

  10. How cool!

Is this her first guitar like that?

  11. Also, are the three new songs going to be "solo" Kristin, or are they some of the Throwing Muses ones that came to her a few months ago...?

  12. I was definitely impressed by the custom nature of this guitar, but Billy's comment on this being a tool, used 3-4 hours a day, really drives it home. This isn't just her art, it's her work, the equipment that helps her excel at her job. I suspect that this guitar will be riding with you on the plane, tethered to your ankle.

  13. @Conski: No, it's her 2nd guitar like this. Collings made her first one in 1993. Now, 15 years later it's badly in need of rest and repair that we hope it will now, eventually, receive.

  14. I vote for a video unveiling!!

  15. This guitar is a custom made professional tool, produced for a mission-critical application...

I can hear Billy saying this in his announcer voice...

  16. @jediroller: Shaddap!

  17. The announcer voice comment and Billy's reply just made me laugh out loud in my office. I'm glad they already think I'm "eccentric" or my colleagues might start wondering about me.

  18. ooh, video unveiling sounds(!) nice! :)

and hi everybody. i'm a TM/KH/etc. fan for about 18 years but haven't really done the online community thing much, so i'm a stranger to these parts. erm...hiyas!

  19. Hey, fresh meat! Welcome to rock-based-internet's coolest community Plaintiger. Have you checked out wildvanilla.ning.com too?

I'm hoping the new mission critical tool is coming to London in November. Would really like to be a fly on the airport checkout desk watching K trying to pass it off as hand luggage. "This is going in your luggage black hole when you prise my cold fingers off of the case!"

  20. Brilliant. Great to be a part of it (nearly)

  21. heehee...thank you, hooberry...i haven't checked that out but i will do so directly.

for my part i'm loving following Kristin's twitter channel (that'd be kristinhersh, btw). i just wish i could reply...tell Her things like that i hope She doesn't forget to eat and sleep and so forth for making love to Her new guitar. :)

anybody who *doesn't* follow Kristin's twitter channel, i highly recommend it. that *really* makes you feel like a part of it, NCFC. i feel like She's texting me personally several times a day. :) and like i always know what's going on with Her.

never used twitter until i saw Kristin broadcasts so often. now i use it. :)

  22. joined, hooberry. thanks.

  23. @plaintiger : Yes i started using Twitter just so i could get txts from K also... but now i twitter constantly! It's fascinating the sorts of events i bother to twitter about... my channel is [predictably] /ebenezerspooge

  24. i'm amused by twitter's "@user" convention showing up here!

  25. @woj: It just make so much sense!

  26. true dat!

  27. Was driving home from Sydney on Friday thinking about Kristin playing the new guitar... how it would resonate, and what those resonations might lead to. I don't wanna sound melodramatic, but it's really something, eh? When you think of all that's happened since she got that first one.

She got that one in 1993? I did some quick calculations... if she averaged 3 hours playing a day, that's 16,425 hours. 2 hours it's 10,950... etc. That's a big mosaic, that is.

  28. Francis, how long IS that drive to Katoomba? :)

  29. An hour & twenty from Surry Hills at this time of night. I just did it again... went down to see Lucie Thorne & Jackie Marshall, two of my Oz heroes.

  30. Hi Everyone...new here, but certainly not new to the wonderful world of KH...I too, vote for the video unveiling, and as I was too late to donate to this noble cause(I would have!!), I also vote to donate to anything that helps K keep making music.. :)
