  1. i've read the news about Warner Music to stop licensing songs to free online streaming sites, and i was wondering... is it going to affect americans and europeans with no distinction like it happened with YouTube, when all the Muses official videos were gone? or since their records are licensed to 4AD in Europe we'll be able to keep listening to their catalogue in Spotify?

i have all the originals after all, but to be able to listen to streaming music like that is really practical, since a lot of my cd's are at my mother's and miles away, hehe. plus it's good to discover new artists as well, and if you're someone who loves music and loves to have records and what they mean, you're going to support the artist anyway. it's like all they can think of is censorship to save their old business, like the customers will be willing to buy a record better if they can't know what the music is like. i'm an old school guy too, i tend to save the surprise factor with artists that i like and never listen to a full record before buying it, i still love that sensation, but you can't deny that everything has evolved and the way we understand and distribute music too, so... i don't understand how they can see it as "we can't have our costumers listen to the whole product for free cause then they won't buy it". i see it more as a tool rather than a threat. i think that nevermind having complete access to it or not, the person who won't buy a record, just won't buy it.

  2. The interesting aspect of this threat from Warner and radio in general is with regards to the "performance tax" that is being levied on digital streaming sites. Yes, the actual performer of art is supposed to get paid every time their recording is played. This does NOT apply to terrestrial radio play however..Making the NAB very powerful on deciding who's interest they serve (the people or the radio stations). An interesting thing from what warner is doing though is that they threaten to pull potential future performance income from those who were once "their" artists. This is bothersome as it makes all royalty reporting go through the label.... and they decide if the artist gets paid or not. With performance reporting, the label can be skipped and the artist will directly learn how popular they really are.. Do your best and find alternate means to support the artists you love. I stopped my XM subscription and instead send that money to CASH.
